Bull Point Shad

ブルポイントシャッド

The EVERGREEN Bull Point Shad, also sold in the U.S. as the Bullpoint Shad, is a 4.5-inch soft-plastic trailer designed by Morizo Shimizu for the EVERGREEN Jack Hammer series. Its weighted body, slim tail, and high-pitch flat fins enhance casting, stability, and action without overpowering the bladed jig.

What is the Bull Point Shad?

The Bull Point Shad is a 4.5-inch soft-plastic trailer developed specifically for the EVERGREEN Jack Hammer series by Morizo Shimizu.

Rather than simply adding more action behind a bladed jig, its design is intended to work together with the Jack Hammer as a complete system.

The body section hidden beneath the skirt is relatively bulky, adding weight for longer casts without making the overall silhouette excessively large. Behind the skirt, the body quickly transitions into a slimmer tail ending in thin, deeply cut V-shaped flat fins.

These fins produce a fine, high-pitch movement while minimizing excess water resistance, allowing the Jack Hammer's blade, head, skirt, and trailer to work together rather than competing with one another.

Why it's popular in Japan

The Bull Point Shad reflects a distinctly Japanese approach to lure refinement: instead of treating the trailer as an interchangeable accessory, it was designed around the specific characteristics of the Jack Hammer. Its bulky front section improves casting and helps create a softer entry into the water, while its inverted-triangle body shape improves straight-line stability and helps the lure recover quickly after an erratic dart. The thicker head also makes precise rigging easier, reducing the chance that a slightly off-center trailer will disturb the lure's balance. For anglers who already rely on the Jack Hammer, the Bull Point Shad provides a purpose-built way to tune the entire presentation as a single system.

How Japanese anglers fish it

Rig the Bull Point Shad directly onto a Jack Hammer as a bladed-jig trailer, keeping the body centered on the hook.

It is designed to work across the Jack Hammer's wide range of retrieve speeds. During slow retrieves, the flexible tail responds even to relatively weak water pressure. At higher speeds, three slits between the body and tail help release excess force and prevent the tail action from becoming too aggressive.

The bulky ribbed body also helps keep the Jack Hammer's skirt open and vibrating rather than allowing it to collapse tightly against the trailer.

It can be paired with the original Jack Hammer, Jack Hammer TG, Jack Hammer SB, and Jack Hammer Baby Jack.

Recommended situations

  • As a dedicated trailer for the Jack Hammer series
  • When long casting distance is important
  • Slow to high-speed bladed-jig retrieves
  • Around submerged vegetation
  • Skipping beneath overhanging cover
  • When you want trailer action without overpowering the blade
  • When precise tracking and quick recovery after darts are important

How it differs from US-market lures

Unlike a general-purpose swimbait or soft-plastic trailer that happens to work on a bladed jig, the Bull Point Shad was engineered specifically around the characteristics of the Jack Hammer.

Its design deliberately balances several competing requirements: additional casting weight without excessive visual bulk, tail movement without excessive drag, straight-line stability without eliminating erratic action, and enough body volume to help the skirt remain active.

For US anglers accustomed to choosing a trailer independently from the bladed jig, the Bull Point Shad offers a more integrated approach—the trailer is treated as another functional component of the Jack Hammer system.
