Bladed Jig (Chatterbait)

チャターベイト· Vibrating Jig, Chatterbait, Blade Jig· Beginner

A moving-bait technique using a jig with a metal blade that creates strong vibration and erratic action during the retrieve.

Bladed jig fishing uses a metal blade attached in front of a jig head to generate vibration, flash, and irregular movement as the lure is retrieved.

In Japan, these lures are commonly called "chatterbaits" (チャターベイト), although Bladed Jig is the more general lure-category term. The technique works particularly well when anglers need to cover water while still presenting a lure with a strong presence.

The basic approach is simple: cast the lure and retrieve it steadily while keeping it at the desired depth. More advanced presentations involve changing retrieve speed, allowing the lure to contact vegetation or structure, or briefly accelerating it to create an unpredictable change in direction.

Bladed jigs can be especially effective around submerged vegetation, shallow cover, flats, and areas where bass are feeding on baitfish.

Japanese lure development has also played an important role in refining this category. The EVERGREEN Jack Hammer, developed through the experience of Japanese professional angler Morizo Shimizu together with American tournament angler Brett Hite, became one of the most internationally successful examples of a Japanese-developed bladed jig.
