Jack Hammer Baby Jack
ジャックハンマー ベイビージャック
A downsized version of the EVERGREEN Jack Hammer developed by Morizo Shimizu and Brett Hite. The Baby Jack combines a compact profile with tight, high-pitch vibration, excellent casting distance, and strong high-speed stability for pressured bass and smaller baitfish situations.

What is the Jack Hammer Baby Jack?
The Jack Hammer Baby Jack is a compact bladed jig developed by Morizo Shimizu and Brett Hite as the third model in EVERGREEN's Jack Hammer series.
It retains the fundamental performance of the original Jack Hammer while reducing the overall profile. Its smaller 0.35 mm stainless-steel blade produces a finer vibration than the original's 0.4 mm blade, while the compact, low-center-of-gravity head maintains stable tracking and quickly recovers after erratic movements.
A rear-weighted collar allows the head itself to remain compact while improving casting stability. The flat-bottom head is also designed for skipping, making the Baby Jack useful around overhanging cover as well as open water and vegetation.
Available in 1/4 oz, 3/8 oz, and 1/2 oz sizes, it expands the Jack Hammer concept into shallower water, faster retrieves, and more pressured fishing situations.
Why it's popular in Japan
The Baby Jack is particularly well suited to conditions frequently encountered by Japanese bass anglers: pressured fish, smaller bodies of water, shore fishing, and situations where a full-size bladed jig may have too much presence. Its compact profile pairs naturally with smaller trailers, while reduced air resistance helps it cast surprisingly far—even in the lightweight 1/4 oz version. This is valuable when fishing from the bank, where maintaining distance from pressured fish can make a significant difference. Compared with the original Jack Hammer at the same weight, the Baby Jack can also be retrieved faster at a similar depth or run deeper at the same retrieve speed. This gives anglers another way to cover water efficiently without moving to a larger-profile bait.
How Japanese anglers fish it
The Baby Jack can be fished with a simple steady retrieve, but its compact design makes it especially useful when anglers want to increase retrieve speed or reduce the overall presence of a bladed jig.
The 1/4 oz version is particularly useful in shallow water and can be retrieved just below the surface around shallow vegetation. The 3/8 oz version provides a versatile balance for bank fishing, small rivers, ponds, and weed edges.
High-speed retrieves are another strength. Because the smaller blade produces less water resistance and the rear-weighted collar acts as a keel, the lure remains stable even when retrieved quickly.
Around vegetation and cover, its metal blade can also be worked aggressively while maintaining the characteristic vibration and reaction-bite potential of the Jack Hammer series.
Recommended situations
- Highly pressured bass
- Small rivers and ponds
- Shore fishing
- Shallow weed areas
- When bass are feeding on smaller baitfish
- High-speed retrieves
- Skipping around overhanging cover
- When the original Jack Hammer feels too large or aggressive
- Clear to moderately stained water
How it differs from US-market lures
The Baby Jack takes the proven Jack Hammer concept in a more compact and finesse-oriented direction.
Compared with the original Jack Hammer at the same weight, it presents a smaller silhouette, produces a finer vibration, casts efficiently, and can be retrieved faster while maintaining its running depth.
It also occupies a useful middle ground within the Jack Hammer family. Its vibration is less aggressive than the original Jack Hammer but stronger than the Jack Hammer SB (Stealth Blade), giving anglers a compact option without moving all the way to a finesse-style clear-blade presentation.
For US anglers familiar with the original Jack Hammer, the Baby Jack offers a distinctly useful variation for pressured fish, smaller forage, shallow vegetation, and situations where downsizing the entire bladed-jig presentation can generate additional bites.
